Four numeric domain keys
And not symbols
An earlier design used symbol prefixes. It was replaced with numeric domain keys for a practical reason: numerals are unambiguous across keyboard layouts and across the three input languages, and they are faster to reach on a phone keypad than symbols that require a modifier.
The keys are: 1 for SNOMED CT conditions, 2 for LOINC investigations, 3 or 33 for ICD diagnosis, and 4 for ATC medications.
A record that can be counted
For the clinician
A note that reads like a note, written at the speed of typing.
For the patient
A record that any other conforming system can read, now and in twenty years.
For the programme
Counts, trends and cohorts — from ordinary consultations rather than from a separate data-entry exercise.
